July is Wellness Month

July is social wellness month. According to University of Guelph,

social wellness is one of the 8 domains of well-being and means “Developing a sense of connection, belonging, and a well-developed support system.” It is very important to speak to a long lost friend or family member or an outing with someone (during this time make sure you are following social distancing rules per your state and local guidelines). Zoom and similar virtual social apps have made it even easier to connect with friends and family. For example, my family has a weekly Zoom meeting, never did this before the Coronavirus.

Social wellness not only helps you mentally but physically. In fact, Senior Lifestyle says “The heart and blood pressure of people with healthy relationships respond better to stress.” As well as “Strong social networks are associated with a healthier endocrine system and healthier cardiovascular functioning.” Plus during this time of COVID-19 it also boosts your immunity to infectious diseases.

This July it will be very hard to achieve this part of well-being but going about it is not impossible. Rutgers health with COPSA can be found on this website https://www.care2caregivers.com/ offering support and education and more about this topic.
